Opinions of class teachers for human rights, citizenship and democracy course: Sample of Afyonkarahisar

The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of the class teachers about Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy. Within the framework of this aim, the opinions of the class teachers about the participation of the course on Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy in the elementary school, about the textbook, the curricula of the course and the achievements in the curriculum have been taken. The problems and solutions encountered in the course, the methods and techniques used in the course, the assessment and evaluation tools and tools are tried to be determined. Qualitative research method was used in the research. The advantage of having in-depth knowledge of the experiences, perceptions and ideas provided by qualitative research is taken into account. The phenomenology pattern was utilized. The participants of the study consisted of 30 class teachers, 17 male and 13 female teachers working in Afyonkarahisar centers and districts, villages and towns in the 2016-2017 academic year. As a data collection tool, a semi-structured interview form consisting of 11 questions was used. Content analysis method was used for data analysis. As a result of the analyzes, it was determined that Human Rights, Citizenship and Democracy should be included in the elementary school and it is useful. however, it was stated that the contents of the course, the stories used in the course of the course, and the language and expression of the textbook were above the students' levels; It was suggested that students should be re-planned according to their level.
