Socio-economic and spatial transformations in the historical centre of Istanbul after 1980: The case of Talimhane, Beyoglu

This research aims to examine the transformations and urban regenerations at Talimhane, Beyoglu district, after 1980. Historical Peninsula and Beyoglu which is the historical city centre of İstanbul has witnessed many important regenerations beginning from 1980?s and the second half of 1990?s. In this context, the user profile has changed correspondingly to the change of spatial space at some districts such as Istiklal Street, Galata, Asmalı Mescit and French Street. As a result of these transformations, Istanbul Municipality carried out Talimhane Rehabilitation Project at Talimhane district between 2003 and 2004. In the scope of this master thesis, it is aimed to analyze the socio-economic and spatial change within the help of surveys and interviews, as well to ascertain the Talimhane Rehabilitation Project, carried out by Istanbul Municipality.
