Abstract (EN)

Lake Van, which is located in a closed basin, comes to the fore with significant level changes today as it was in the past. Determining the causes as well as the determination of these level changes is important for the scientific world and ecological life. Many studies have been carried out with different methods and techniques regarding the level changes in the past years. In this thesis study, the water level changes in Van Lake in recent years were analyzed with two different methods and the results were evaluated. In the first of these, the change in lake levels between 2000 and 2020 was estimated with the LSTM method, which is one of the heuristic time series methods that have been used in recent years. In the second, water level changes between the years 2010-2020 were examined by using the meteorological and hydrological data with the Water Budget method. In the light of the results obtained, the reasons for the level changes in Lake Van that have occurred in recent years have been discussed. It was concluded that the changes especially after 2014 may be hydrometeorological, but the unusual level changes between the years 2010-2013 can be attributed to other reasons such as crustal movements, water and gas outflow from the lake floor. It has been emphasized that these changes may continue in the future, and it has been evaluated that there is a need for more studies with different disciplines on this subject.
