Abstract (EN)
Aim: Diagnostic markers in patients with non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) are still in the research stage. This study investigated whether pentraxin-3 (PTX-3) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels are of diagnostic value in these patients. Materials-Methods: This study was performed prospectively at the Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Medicine Emergency Medicine Department between April 2014 and December 2015. Patients aged over 18 and brought to the emergency department with neurological findings and diagnosed with SAH or ICH using cerebral tomography (CT) imaging were included in the study. PTX-3 and CRP levels were studied in blood specimens taken at time of presentation, at the 12th hour after presentation and after 6 months. Results: SAG group patients' PTX levels at presentation and 12 hours after presentation differed significantly from those of the control group (p<0.001; p<0.001). ICH group patients' PTX levels differed significantly from those of the control group at presentation and at the 12th hour (p<0.001; p<0.001). SAH group patients' CRP levels differed significantly from those of the control group at the 12th hour after presentation (p<0.001). ICH group patients' CRP levels differed significantly from those of the control at the 12th hour of presentation (p<0.001). In conclusion, our results show that both the PTX-3 and CRP methods can be considered as diagnostic tests in patients with SAH and ICH. We think that these findings now need to be confirmed with broader, controlled studies.
