The study of the relationship between high school student's social approval requirement and submissive behavior within the sporting activities (The sample of Batman province)

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between high school students social approvel requirement and submissive behavior within the sporting activities in Batman province. This research was designed according to the descriptive survey model that is one of the quantitative research methods. In the research, the literature was reviewed, and necessary information was given about the subject. In the research, 653 students, studying in official secondary (high school) schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the city center of Batman in the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year, constitute the sample of the study. SPSS 22.0 IBM statistical package program was used to evaluate and calculate the data obtained from the participants. As the data collection tool, the data was collected with the " Social Approval Requirement Scale" developed by Karaşar and Öğülmüş (2016) and the "Submissive Behavior Scale" developed by Gilbert and Allan (1994) and adapted into Turkish by Şahin and Şahin (1992) and the "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher. In the study is to examine of the relationship between high school student's social approval requirement end submissive behavior within the sporting activities that whether there are significant differences or not according to the variables such as age, gender, class levels, school type, parent educations, type of participation in sporting events, family income level, sensitivity to the judgment of others, social withdrawal, make a positive impression and submissive behavior. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that there was a difference between the variables such as age, gender, grade levels,, school type, parent educations, type of participation in sporting events, family income level, submissive behavior and the sub-dimensions of social approval requirement scale (sensitivity to the judgment of others, social withdrawal, make a positive impression). As a result, it is thought that relationship between the need for social approval and submissive behaviors of high school students within the scope of sports activities should be determined and taken in to account in the field of physical education and sports.
