Strabo's observation and description of the Kaukasus and Armenia regions (Strabo Geographika, Book XI translation and evaluation of related chapters)

In this thesis, Book XI of the work named Geopgraphika of Strabo, shown as an important geographer and historian of the ancient age has been handled. Also in this book, Strabo's observation and description penned Greek on the regions especially Caucasus, Colchis included in it, and southern Armenia located below has been mentioned. In the study, the determination and translation to Turkish of the Geographika Book XI, which describes the Colchis, Caucasus and Southern Armenia regions, which are of great importance for Pontos Eukseinos (Black Sea) both in ancient times and today, especially in terms of trade route, raw materials, mines and slaves has been made. Then, the data obtained by making an in-depth comparison of the informations provided by Strabo with the informations in other ancient sources written before and after his period and the informations in modern sources written on these regions were evaluated. Finally, these regions, which have a wide hinterland, were positioned in line with the information given by Strabon, so that the regions's depiction described in the ancient time was relocated today through a sketch map. As a result, it has been concluded that such a study will be a roadmap that will greatly facilitate the works of our scientists working in different but interconnected disciplines, and more importantly for our researchers working on this region and fields. Our thesis is also important in terms of the detailed interpretation of such a work written in Hellence on these regions by adding it to Turkish literature and thus being the first detailed study prepared in Turkish.
