Women and poverty in the novels of Suat Derviş

With her literary and journalist identity, her free spirit, independent stance and political views, Suat Derviş is a unique author and a journalist that cannot be stereotyped. One of the purposes of this study is to deal with the poverty of female protagonists in the novels of Suat Derviş, who has been forgotten for a long time and who published more than thirty novels for more than half a century, composed articles for both Turkish and foreign journals and magazines, wrote serial novels that still didn't reach the modern audience, A panoramic view of lives of women during that time is presented by showing the poverty and problems of women with the female protagonists in the novels. The ways, by means of which Suat Derviş handles social gender roles and the poverty and the women's poverty that is forced by capitalist and patriarchal system with female protagonists are examined. In addition to the selected novels of the author, her precious interviews, which reflect the age that they were written, are also referred. In the context of an interdisciplinary view of feminist literary criticism, a multi dimensioned notion of poverty is examined in the works of Derviş. In this thesis, it is aimed to try to understand and visualize the situation of women, who experience different types of poverty in Suat Derviş's novel characters.
