Abstract (EN)

N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are cyclic carbenes that contain nitrogen as a heteroatom on at least one of their carbene carbons. The most suitable structure can be prepared from a steric, electronic, and chemical perspective by modifying the substituents on the nitrogen atom. Due to their strong σ-donor and weak π-acceptor properties, NHCs can form complexes with most metals in the periodic table. Among these, complexes formed by NHCs with palladium in particular are quite common. There are numerous studies investigating both the use of palladium NHC complexes as catalysts and their anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. The benzimidazole ligand also occupies an important place among the ligands used as NHC precursors. Different electronic and steric properties can be imparted to the ligand by modifying the substituents attached to the nitrogen atoms of benzimidazole. NHC-Pd complexes obtained from the interaction of these tunable ligands with various palladium compounds have a wide range of applications. Within the scope of the thesis, the (NHC)₂PdBr₂ complex formed by 1,3-disubstituted benzimidazolium salts with Pd(OAc)₂, and Pd-PEPPSI-type complexes formed by the same ligands with PdCl₂, K₂CO₃, and (L) (L = pyridine, 3-chloropyridine, and N-methyl imidazole) were synthesised and their structures were analysed using spectroscopic methods. The catalytic properties of newly synthesised complexes in the arylation of 3,5-dimethylisoxazole, Suzuki and Heck reactions were investigated and favourable results were obtained. The antioxidant properties of compounds 1a-1c were also investigated.
