Abstract (EN)
Swiftly changing circumstances and conditions of the World makes globalization an absolute necessity. In terms of the fight against crime, the natural consequence of globalization is that states are in judicial cooperation with each other. The oldest international and perhaps the most effective type of legal aid in terms of fighting crime and criminality is extradition. In order to ensure the punishment of offenders, states have been signing extradition treaties for a while. Turkey has signed many bilateral and multilateral treaties regarding extradition. European Convention on Extradition, one of the treaties which is signed by Turkey, forms the general framework of extradition law, both in terms of international law and in terms of Turkish law. These bilateral treaties and the rules regarding extradition law under European Convention on Extradition have their place in Turkey's domestic law with the International Judicial Coperation Law on Criminal Matters no. 6706. In this paper, principles of extradition institution will be examined within the framework of the International Judicial Coperation Law on Criminal Matters and the European Convention on Extradition. This paper will further analyze, the practice of these rules in Turkey and their consequences.
