Sudanese author Tayeb Salih and text-centered critical analysis of the novel named Ursü'z-Zeyn (The Wedding of Zein): A methodological study

The novel named Wedding of Zein written by Tayyib Salih is study object of this work. This study which has the character of a text-centered critical analysis is intended to describe, explain and evaluate formal aspects of the novel such as identity, theme, plot and intellectual aspects such as main thought, symbolic elements, fictional. But before undertaking such an study, the life, works, literary personality of the author, as well as the history and sociocultural structure of the place where he was born researched and added to the study. Although all of these are in the status of the external context of the text, the reason for their research is to provide a holistic perspective. Thanks to the technical research on the historical course and social structure of Sudan from past to present, the historical and sociocultural structure in the text of the novel The Wedding of Zein, could be investigated. At the end of this research, some results that contribute to the definition and evaluation of the novel were obtained. İnvestigation of Tayeb Salih, his works and his thoughts on literature and as well as versatile formal analysis of the novel text enabled to process the intellectual basis and symbolic aspect of the novel. Thus, some findings have been reached. These findings are helpful in understanding and explaining the novel. The study of text-centered structural elements such as characters, space, time, expression techniques, language, style enabled to some descriptions and explanations of the fictionality showing the intellectual background of the novel. As a result of these systematic processes that reveal a text-centered critical analysis, the novel The Wedding of Zein has been described and evaluated.
