Abstract (EN)

This work focuses on determining his judicial thought based on the life, work, and worship of Süleyman Sırrı of Ermenek who is one of the last scholars of the Ottoman Empire and also a law teacher at the law school (Mektebe-i Hukûk) and secondary in classes open to the public. This thesis consist of three main topics. In the first part the life and work of Süleyman Sırrı is analysed and defined. This part shows that he is a versatile, pious and productive scholar. The second part analyses his works on Islamic jurisdiction. It shows that he is well familiar with hanafi texts on law. His mastery use of methodical and universal terms in his explanations to tAl Hidaya and Al Asbah va An Nazair shows his admiration to Mecelle. The third part tries to define Sırrı's understanding of jurisdiction. It can be seen that he is a a proponent Hanafi scholar with a strong bound to Abu Hanîfâ. Based on his familiarity with Hanafi jurisdictions and text it is clear that in consequence he is also familiar with Usul al fiqh and furu al fiqh. With his knowledge, Master Sırrı worked day and night until his last days teaching students and finding solutions for the problems of his time and compiled his works which he then left for the generations after him.
