Abstract (EN)

This thesis considers the importance of the following ideologies for determining Turkish political life: Liberalism, Kemalism and Islamism. Though all of these ideologies have different political projects, they aim to achieve the same goal: governing the state based on their own suggestions of living together. In order for these ideologies to achieve the mentioned goal, in particular since the last quarter of the twentieth century, under the conditions of the new world order, they have needed to review their differences from the others and their common understandings. When we look at the current stage of Turkish political history, we see that there are some time-periods when one of these ideologies comes to forth, respectively. The recent situation of Turkish politics as a result of Turkish history points to this fact: liberalism and conservatism seem to reach a consensus. The liberals do not see any possibility for the Turkish experience of modernity to become an alternative model against Western modernity. They also attribute a great importance to liberal-conservative democracy in order for the Islamic East to develop itself. Since the early 1980s, the accumulation of the Islamist capital has enormously increased and as a result in cultural and political terms Islamists have worked hard in weakening the secular base of the state. And thus, they in this process have still regarded Kemalism as their greatest opposition.
