Abstract (EN)
The Effect of Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes on Metabolic Controls of School and Family Relationships Aim: This study was conducted to determine the effect of adolescents with type 1 diabetes on metabolic control of school and family relationships. Material and Method: This descriptive study was conducted between March 2016 - April 2017 with 104 adolescents diagnosed as Type 1 Diabetes who were treated in the pediatric endocrine / diabetes outpatient clinic and services of İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center. The data were collected by using "Sociodemographic Characteristics Form of Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes", "Some of the school-related characteristics of adolescents with Type 1 diabetes and Nutrition", "Blood Glucose Measurement", "Insulin Application Form", "Family Assessment Scale" for adolescents. Kruskal Wallis, correlation and student t test were used to evaluate the data. Results: It was determined that 51.9% of adolescents with type 1 diabetes were girls, 67.4% were in the 15-17 age range, 42.3% had hypoglycemia 1-3 times a week and 44.2% had hyperglycemia. It was found that 40.4% of adolescents were measuring blood sugar, 50% felt uncomfortable while applying insulin, 46.2% carried insulin in their bag and applied insulin in the toilet of the school. Adolescents were found to have poor metabolic control, high HbA1c mean value (x = 10.9 ± 2.22) and difficulty in managing diabetes at school. There was a correlation (r = 0.218; p = 0.048) between the HbA1c sub-dimension and the family evaluation scale, The relationship between the scale total and other sub-dimensions was not significant. Conclusion: It was found that adolescents with type 1 diabetes had difficulty in the treatment and care required by diabetes in the school, their family relations were not healthy and their metabolic controls were not sufficient. Key words: Adolescent, family, metabolic control, school, type 1 diabetes
