Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the treatment adaptation and insulin perceptions of type 2 diabetes patients. The population of the study, which is planned as descriptive and cross-sectional, consists of patients with type-2 DM who applied to the Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic of Karadeniz Technical University Health Practice and Research Center Farabi Hospital in the first half of 2020. The data of the study were collected by using Patient information form, Charlson Comorbidity Index, Patient Adaptation Scale in the Treatment of Type-2 DM, and Insulin Treatment Appraisal Scale during the period of July-September 2020. Analysis of the research data was made with the SPSS package software. Descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA from parametric tests and Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H test from non-parametric tests were used for data evaluation. The average age of the participants was 59.35±11.99 and 58.1% of them were female. 57.6% of the patients have type-2 DM disease for less than 10 years, and 73.3% of them have additional disease to diabetes. The mean score of the Patient Adaptation Scale in the Treatment of Type-2 DM was 78.12±12.60 and 99% of them were evaluated as "moderate". The total Insulin Treatment Appraisal Scale of the patients was 54.49±15.75; the positive subscale was 15.03±3.53; and the negative subscale was 45.50±13.05. As a result of the study, the patients' compliance with diabetes treatment was found to be at moderate level. Patients using only oral antidiabetic drugs have lower compliance to treatment than patients using insulin It was concluded that the patients evaluated the treatment of insulin negatively, that is, their negative perceptions towards insulin were higher.
