The effects of using probiotic and glutamine in rats with obstructive jaundice on intestinal barrier, bacterial translocation, hepatocyte apoptosis, oxidative capacity and kupffer cell function

Abstract (EN)
Some pathologic changes occur in the organism as a result of biliary tract obstruction. One of these is bacterial translocation. Various substances and the consequences of bacterial translocation in obstructive jaundice were investigated but the combined insult with glutamine and probiotic has not been previously examined. From there, we aimed to investigate the effects of using probiotic with immunonutrition in an experimental model of obstructive jaundice on pathologic proceseses. In this study; thirty male Wistar-Albino rats weighing 200 to 250g were divided into five groups including 6 rats in each group. In sham operated group only laparotomy was done. Obstructive jaundice was developed in control, glutamine, glutamine+probiotic groups. Blood samples were drawn for the measurement of standart biochemical accounts and tissue samples for bacterial translocation, histopathological assessment and measurement of GSH, GR, SOD, NOx.Standard biochemical values showing liver function, there were no statistically differences between the groups. However, bacterial translocation reduces in groups which glutamine and probiotic applied together and individually, the parameters showing antioxidant system values SOD in control group, GSH in glutamine group, GSH, GR, SOD in probiotic group, GSH and GR in glutamine+probiotic group s tatistically significant differences were confirmed (p<0,05). There was no difference in terms of NOx. Histopathologically, the probiotic group, apoptosis was found to be higher than the other groups. Together and individual use of glutamine and probiotic in obstructive jaundice reduces bacterial translocation. However, especially in order to clarify the effects of probiotic on antioxidant system parameters and the liver, further studies are needed.
