An investigation of the life satisfaction of grandparents who care for their grandchildren with demographic variables

In this study, it was investigated whether the life satisfaction levels of grandparents who care for their grandchildren differ according to demographic variables. The study group of the study consisted of 168 grandparents who met the inclusion criteria. Sociodemographic information form and Life Satisfaction Scale (LDS) were applied to the participants. SPSS v25 was used in the analysis of the data. Pearson Correlation Analysis, Independent Samples t-test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used because the data showed normal distribution. The significance level was taken as 0.05. According to the findings, the level of life satisfaction of caregiver grandparents in the closeness dimension was higher than the level of caregiver grandparents in the basic care dimension. The life satisfaction level of the middle-income grandparents was higher than that of the low-income grandparents. No significant relationship was found between the age of the grandparents, the number of grandchildren they care for, and the duration of caregiving and life satisfaction. Life satisfaction levels of grandparents did not differ according to gender, marital status, educational status, chronic illness and gender of grandchildren. The findings were discussed on the basis of the relevant literature.
