Abstract (EN)

In coordination chemistry, Schiff bases have attracted considerable attention because they can form highly stable complexes with metal ions. Schiff bases are synthesized by condensation of primary amines with aldehydes or ketones. Schiff bases can be directly reacted with suitable metal salts to form stable metal complexes or they can be synthesized by adding suitable metal ion salt at the beginning of Schiff base reaction by taking advantage of the directing effect of metal ion. Over the years, Schiff bases and metal ion complexes have been known for their biological properties such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, anticancer and antimalarial. In addition, varying ligand types, coordination spheres, oxidation states and redox potentials affect the kinetic and thermodynamic properties of the complexes related to biological activities catalyst, chemosensor and corrosion inhibitor. The presence of an indole ring in many natural and synthetic compounds is extremely important for their distinct biological activities due to the interaction of this pharmacophore with different molecular receptors. Due to its strong pharmaceutical background, indole base has inspired the design and synthesis of numerous derivatives that can serve as intermediates and starting compounds for drug production. Among natural compounds carrying an indole ring in its structure, special attention has been paid to tryptamine (3-(2 aminoethyl)indole) as an example of a biogenic amine and alkaloid found in many plants, fungi and animals. In addition to the indole skeleton, the structure of tryptamine also includes an amino group located on the indole side chain. The presence of an indole ring in the molecular skeleton of tryptamine enables the design and synthesis of its derivatives - Schiff bases - carrying imino pharmacophores in the structure. Tryptamine continues to be the focus of researchers since Schiff bases are known to have great pharmacological potential reflected in a spectrum of biological activities such as antifungal, antibacterial, antimalarial, antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic. Within the scope of this thesis, direct and/or metal directed syntheses of new Schiff Base compounds formed by indole derivative tryptamine as amine compound with various aldehydes were carried out. The structures of the obtained ligands and some transition metal ion complexes were elucidated with the help of UV, IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR mass spectra.
