The relationship between crisis management and leadership styles in tourist guiding

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between crisis management and leadership styles in tourist guidance. In the research, first of all, a conceptual framework was created by scanning the domestic and foreign literature about the concepts that constitute the variables of the research. In this context, domestic and foreign literature was reviewed; It has been observed that a limited number of studies have been conducted on crisis management and leadership styles in tourist guidance. Since the studies on the crisis management literature are mostly about crises based on external factors, no research on the crisis management behavior of the guides was found in the literature during the tour. From this point of view, crisis management behavior scale and leadership styles inventory was created by using Delphi technique; An important gap in the literature has been filled. In line with the conceptual framework created, the survey technique was used as a data collection method during the application phase. The population of the research consists of 8900 active tourist guides working actively in Turkey. In this framework, a total of 850 questionnaires were distributed, taking into account the number and rate of active tourist guides registered in the guide rooms, 610 of these questionnaires were returned, and a total of 520 questionnaires were evaluated by excluding incomplete and incorrect questionnaires. The answers of the tourist guides to the questionnaires; factor analysis, reliability analysis, percentage, frequency, analysis of variance, arithmetic mean values, t test, correlation and regression analysis. According to the findings, tourist guides mostly exhibit servant, transformational, creative and autocratic leadership styles; It has been determined that they have the least leadership style that allows laissez faire. Crisis management behavior after the tour, which is included in the crisis management behavior scale, was the dimension with the highest average. In addition, it was determined that there was a high level of positive and significant relationship between transformational leadership and general crisis management behavior and pre-tour crisis management behavior, respectively. It has been revealed that there is a very low, positive and significant relationship between the leadership style that allows laissez faire and the crisis management behavior.
