Destination competitiveness in tourism: A comparative analysis between Alanya and Kemer Tourism destinations

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is determining the competitive factors and comparing competitiveness factors according to demographic variables of visitors in Alanya and Kemer which is located in Turkey's southern coast. In this study that applied a survey method "Destination Competitiveness Scale", is used which was developed by Bahar (2004) and which took its final form in the studies of Bahar & Kozak (2005; 2007), Kozak, Baloğlu & Bahar (2009) and Celik (2014). T test and Anova tests were used through the Spss Program.The research data were obtained by applying a questionnaire to foreign tourists who made their holiday in 2019 summer season in Alanya and Kemer tourism destinations. The questionnaire was first piloted and scale expressions and demographic data were rearranged according to preliminary findings. The survey form consists 23 phrases and some of phrases are, nightlife and entertainment facilities, shopping facilities, quality of accommodation facilities, easy access to the city, hospitality, hygiene and cleanliness, food and beverage quality, the quality of the beach and beaches, value for money paid. According to the findings, it is seen that Kemer is more competitive in terms of physical environment and infrastructure and Alanya is more competitive in terms of touristic facilities and service quality. There is no difference between natural and cultural attractions and touristic services for both destinations. While hospitality is the most competitive factor of Alanya, it is seen that natural attraction is the most competitive factor of Kemer. The data also showed differences according to demographic variables.
