First Nihat Erim cabinet and publiic opinion in the history of Turkish democracy

Abstract (EN)

Instead of the government of Adalet Partisi led by Süleyman Demirel, resigned just after the memorandum of 12th of March 1971, given by Turkish Army, Prof.Dr. Nihat Erim ex-member of CHP, newest independent deputy founded a new non partisan government. Although it had got the confidence of the parliament, the power of this government was "powerless" and virtual due to its lack of base in any political party. Adalet Parttisi holding the majority in the parliament, supported some policies of the government following its interests such as; constitutional amendments and martial law, but did not support land reform harming its benefits. "Reformist" first Nihat Erim cabinet reached to end by the resignation of eleven reformist minister. We have tried to state the attitude of the public opinion toward this government via newspapers and magazines.
