Abstract (EN)
Tourism is an industry individuals travel for very different purposes such as getting to know new cultures and self improvement. Compared to men, women are at a disadvantageous position in tourism activities. Women have been under the influence of men and it took time for them to particiapte in social life. Women, who have started to enter the social life both economically and socially, have also started to participate in travel activities. Women travels for different purposes. However, women encounter constraints for various reasons during their travels. For this reason, the main purpose of the research is to investigate the constraints preventing Turkish women travelers from traveling. In line with this main purpose, research questions were formed after literature review. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews. There are 36 participants in the study. In order to find answers to the research questions, thematic analysis method was used. Results shows that personal constraints, social constraints and structural constraints emerge. It was concluded that women continued their travels despite encountering these restrictions. Besides, it was observed that by overcoming the constraints female travellers improve themselves and boost self confidence.
