Abstract (EN)
PURPOSEThe aim of this study is to search the relationship between total knee arthroplasty (TKA) applications and patients expectations in Turkish people.MATERIAL and METHOD131 patients (18 male, 113 female; mean age: 66.2±8.3 years) who underwent primer TKA and completed minimum 6 months were assessed. Patients? knee functions were assessed with ?Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) knee scoring system, their expectations from TKA were assessed with patient expectation quastionnaire and clinical assesment questionnaire.RESULTSThe mean score of patients HSS knee score for right knee is 89.2±10.5 point , for left knee is 89.6± 9.4 point. Patients expectations from TKA at the furthest are; relieve pain (% 99.2), improve ability to go up stairs and down stairs (% 93.1), improve ability to walk (% 96.2). Patients expectations from TKA at the least are; to participate in recreational activities (% 42.0), to improve psychological well-being (% 22.9), to be able to sleep regularly (% 38.2). These expectations are not affected from educational statues, ecomomical statues, working statues and Charnley Classification.CONCLUSIONTotal knee arthroplasty is a cost-effective way of relieving pain and function. In our study confirm these results. Postoperative expectations and abilities are different for a variety of patients, and achieving these postoperative goals is multifactorial and contribute greatly to the overall clinical outcome and satisfaction after TKA. We can improve patients functional levels with TKA applications. Also with this, assessing expectations can be helpful during prothesis designs, surgery modifications and deciding the aim of rehabilitation programme. In our study we tried to assess expectations of Turkish people with TKA. The results are interesting for example; as in Asian and Eastern people in our culture we expected that improve ability to kneel and to squat or to sit on knees to be the furthest expectations. But reversely sitting on knees is at 8. line.
