Abstract (EN)

Semantics is defined as a discipline that analyses the meaning from all its aspects. Although there are many different definitions of the meaning, the shortest one is that it is the nominative value of the word. Meaning is the subject that is approached, not just by linguistic scientists, but also by many other researchers, because it is the issue of very different fields. That is why there are many different definitions of this subject. While discussing the topic of the meaning, one of the main terms that has to be mentioned is the indicator. The term that was approached by Saussure with a great attention, was concretized with the example of the 'paper with its both sides'. Except the indicator, subjects such as term, the field of the term, meaning and the varieties of the meaning...and many other issues that are also related to the semantics take place in this thesis. The another topic of this thesis are the names for the plants in Turkish language. Discipline that analyses the names of the plants- phytonomy (science of the plant names) is the field which became systematised in its researches for not so long. This field is one of the many that shows she wealth of the Turkish language. After the literature review of 95 books, thousands of Turkish and words that passed the language Turkization are put out and are the table of that wealth. In this thesis, main topics are Semantics and Names of the Plants in the Turkish language and the relation between them, so the table which is important for the semantics as well as for the vocabulary of the Turkish language will come in sight. Also, within the semantics topic, the names of the plants will be classified and explained by their meaning. In the last part of the thesis, names of the plants in the Turkish language as well as those which passed the Turkization, reached after the literature review, will be transfered with their meaning and number of the book page in the dictionary format. In this way, the vocabulary of the Turkish plant names will be shown up in a systematic way with their meanings.
