The effect of methods, techniques and activities used in Turkish teaching on four basic language skills: A meta analysis

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the methods, techniques and activities used in Turkish language teaching on the four fundamental language skills. Within the scope of the purpose, the problem sentence was determined as "What is the level of the effect of the methods, techniques and activities used in Turkish teaching on the four basic language skills?". Within the scope of the inclusion criteria determined in the meta-analysis method, the data of 51 studies in writing skills, 9 studies in speaking skills, 22 studies in reading skills and 22 studies in listening skills were analyzed using the post-test averages, standard deviation values and the number of participants in the experimental and control groups. Jamovi 1.8 and CMA4 (Free Trial) package programs were used to analyze the data. The analysis results were interpreted according to Cohen D's (1988) criteria. The results showed that the methods, techniques, and activities used were effective at an "excellent level" for writing and speaking skills, at an "extensive level" for reading skills and at a "very extensive level" for listening skills. It was also concluded that the creative drama technique was effective in developing all four skills.
