A research on Turkish language teaching students' writing habits

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to measure the level of writing habit of Turkish languageteaching students. The scope of this research includes the students of Faculty of Education, Malatya İnönü University; Faculty of Education, ElazığFırat University; Kilis 7 Aralık University, MuallimRıfat Faculty of Education. It is not resorted to take a sample but tried to reach whole stage in the research. As data collection tool the scale of writing habit developed by researcher is used. There are exists 8 items in personal information form and 25 statements about writing habit. The 25 statements prepared in order to measure writing habit have 5 titles. These titles consists of 6 statements about obeying the habit of spelling rules and punctuation marks, 7 statements about writing adequacy, 5 statements about the habit of using a writing as a literary text genre, 4 statements about the habit of using a writing as a communication tool and 3 statements about writing strategy. SPSS 16.0 package program is used for the data analysis obtained from applications.As a result of the research, it comes out that Turkish language teaching students frequently have the habit of spelling rules and punctuation marks and writing adequacy and rarely have the habit of using writing as a literary genre and a communication tool and occasionally have the habit of using writing strategies. Some suggestions are offered depending on the results obtained from the research.Keywords: Language, writing skill, writing habit.
