Analysing the relationship between the perceptions of the Turkish language teachers towards classroom management competencies and personality traits

Abstract (EN)

The current study aimed to determine the relationship between the Turkish teachers' perceptions of their classroom management competencies and personality traits. Another purpose of the current study was to reveal whether the Turkish teachers' perceptions of their classroom management competencies and personality traits vary significantly depending on some demographic features. Thus, the current study was designed as a relational survey model. The universe of the study is comprised of 215 Turkish teachers working in the city of Kırşehir and the sampling consists of 195 Turkish teachers selected from among the universe by means of the convenience sampling method. In order to measure the teachers' perceptions of their classroom management competencies, "The Classroom Management Competency Scale" and to measure their perceptions of their personality traits, "Adjective Based Personality Scale (ABPT)" was used. In the current study, a negative, low and significant correlation was found between the scores taken from the "ensuring physical order" sub-dimension of "The Classroom Management Competency Scale" and the "affective disorder" sub-dimension of "Adjective Based Personality Scale" and a positive, low and significant correlation was found with the sub-factors "extraversion, openness to experiences, amiability and responsibility". Moreover, it was found that the Turkish teachers perceive their general classroom management competencies and competencies in the sub-dimensions "ensuring physical order, teaching management, time management, organizing in-class relationships, behavior development and arrangement" as very high and in relation to the personality traits, the Turkish teachers think that they are a bit suitable for "affective disorder", that they are highly suitable for "extraversion", that they are highly suitable for "openness to experiences", that they are highly suitable for "amiability" and that they are highly suitable for "responsibility" Keywords: Classroom Management Competencıes, Personalıty Traıts, Turkish Language Teachers.
