Turkish social sustainable building certification model: TÜSSBİSER

This thesis study is based on the aim of "to encourage and improve the social sustainability through building/built environment in Turkey". The production and formation of a building/built environment that will encourage and improve the social sustainability depends only on the design decisions to be made during the architectural design process. That is why ensuring that the social sustainability issues are taken into account during the architectural design process through a specific systematic approach is important. On the other hand, it is possible that the zoning legislation, as well as the architectural design process, plays an important role in encouraging and improving the social sustainability by means of building/built environment as well. In this context, the potential of providing data support to the architectural design process of the social sustainability approach of the legal regulations related to built environment in our country has been regarded as important and analyzed. Since it has been found that the social sustainability content of the regulations scrutinized is quite limited, developing a unique certification model was considered to be both important and required. During the development of this model, because of their comprehensive framework and rich data support, the social sustainability approach of international certification systems has been used as a basis. In this thesis, a model called Turkish Social Sustainable Building Certification (TÜSSBİSER) Model has been developed in order to integrate the social sustainability issues into the building/built environment production processes in our country. The TÜSSBİSER model evaluates the social sustainability approaches of both the international green certification systems LEED, BREEAM ve DGNB and the regulations related to the built environment that are referred as the national legal framework within the scope of this thesis together. Thus, TÜSSBİSER is a unique model with highly comprehensive content.
