Evaluation the master thesis' written in turkey in the field operating room nursing, regarding their methodology and contents

This study was planned to evaluation the master thesis' written in Turkey in the field of operating room nursing, regarding their methodology and contents. 29 master thesis in the field of operating room nursing, written between years 1997-2012, were included in the study, using Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK) National Thesis Center database. Thesis' were searched, using the "Key Words" and "Detailed Search" and "Advanced Search" options. SPSS 17.0 was used for data analysis. For statistical analysis, descriptive statistical and chi-square tests were used. Majority of the thesis' (65.8%); were written between years 2010-2012, at Marmara University (38%), at the Department of Surgical Nursing (65.5%), the supervisor title was professor (48.3%) in nursing (86.3%) in general and the time period for the thesis preparation was 1-9 months (mean 3.78). The thesis' that were examined in regard to content and methods were entirely quantitative researchs (100%) and descriptive studies (86.2%), the statistical methods were non-parametric tests (48.3%) and questionnaire forms were used (75.9%) in majority of the thesis'. In our study, no statistical difference (p>0.05) was found between groups, regarding the supervisor title of the thesis supervisor, research type of the thesis, data collection methods, statistical analysis and the number of centers that the study was performed. Our research was limited with our access to the full text thesis' that were present at YOK national thesis center database. This study, including doctoral thesis done in a larger sample group suggested. Key Words: Disinfection, surgery, surgery and operating room nursing, surgical scrubbing, sterilization.
