Analysis of the criteria of becoming a metropolis for a city in Turkey with binary regression

Abstract (EN)

As one of the supreme products of human intelligence, metropolises have been the natural physical reflections of social, economic, cultural and political developments. This fact has been revealed in the observations, researches, evaluations and suggestions of intellectual planners, experts and academicians. Metropolises, also defined as metropolitan cities, have recently become the focus of researches for development of countries. In this study, qualities of eighty one cities in Turkey were analysed, metropolises were analysed with logistic regression technique and under which criteria the cities show the characteristics of being a metropolis was determined. In the research, the data of demographical, social and economic-themed variables were used. Statistically significant models were determined using binary logistic regression analysis. According to the research results, gdp per capita and import and export were regarded as significant dependent variables according to the predicted logic model. What stands out is that, at this point, economic variables are effective in explaining the criteria of becoming a metropolis. Key Words: Metropolitan city, Metropolis, Logistic Regression.
