Conservative discourse and music in the minutes of Grand National Assembly of Turkey

Conservatism has been one of the most fundamental components of the political life of the Republic of Turkey since the 1950s. As a concept that is reinterpreted with the dynamics of the country it is in, conservatism has a unique character in Turkey's conditions. Different conservative tendencies, in which the state, nationalism and Islamism coexist with organic bonds, have had a direct and indirect impact on the cultural life of the Republic of Turkey at the parliamentary level for nearly 70 years. In other words, the influence of conservative thought, which has a direct and indirect effect on the parliament and the government, cannot be ignored in the current state of music life in Turkey. Although the Republic of Turkey is defined as a country that was built and developed on completely different dynamics from the Ottoman Empire, with new principles and great revolutions, and the conservatives feel on the sidelines about the right to speak, in fact the great influence of conservative political thought in cultural life is interesting. This study aims to understand the effect of conservative thought in Turkish music life and how music is used by conservative political thought. For this purpose, the minutes of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey from the first assembly to the present were examined, and all expressions related to music were evaluated.
