Evaluation of scientific publications made in measurement and evaluation in education field in Turkey with social network analysis: A bibliometric study

The scientific progress of the country is being measured by certain parameters such as the number of scientific publications, projects, received patent and the resources allocated to research and development in the country. Therefore, every society that wants to progress in science is required to produce scientific policies that can improve the quantity and quality of these parameters. One of the most important reference source of science policies are bibliometric study which are examination of the reference publications with mathematical and statistical methods. In these researches many factors such as publication and citation counts, qualifications of the authors, institutions and journals are being examined and evaluated. In this sense, bibliometric studies determine and give direction to the editorial policy of science and research of the country. In this study, the scientific researches performed in the measurement and evaluation in education field in Turkey are examined with bibliometric methods to improve the quantity and quality of the scientific production and author / citation relationships. This study is a descriptive research. The population of the research is Turkey addressed 51 full-text proceedings and 205 articles published in the measurement and evaluation in education field between the years 2006-2015 and scanned in the database Web of Science (WoS). Publications were analyzed with social network analysis method according to bibliometnc parameters. With this method, structure of knowledge, trends the relationship in the field are visualized and statistical information are presented about the structure of the resulting network. Firstly, publication and citation frequencies and percentages analyzes were performed to determine the general profile of the measurement and evaluation in education field in Turkey. Then, publication and citation relationships were analyzed by social network analysis method in accordance with bibliometric parameters in terms of specific variables. Finally, co-citation and co-word analysis are performed to determine the trends in the field. In the results of the research, it is found that significant portion of the production in measurement and evaluation in education field in Turkey is carried out by certain researchers and they are published in a small number of Turkey addressed journals, the publication and remains limited to the magazine, also the number of citations received by publications and authors are low and most of them are collected in certain publications and authors. In terms of relations in the field of broadcasting, number of multi-authored publication are high so, the authors are intense to corporate relations. In terms of citations trends, most studies refer Turkey addressed journals which are also publication journals, it has been concluded that studies remain in the local. With analysing the citation relationship, subject and concept trends are examined, it is found that there are no landmark and milestone reference resources and concepts in the field, therefore the field have solid structure and remain out of the current developments and changes in the international literature.
