Bibliometric analysis of registered graduate theses in the field of urbanization and environmental problems in Turkey

Urbanization and environment problems, as everywhere else in the world, are also among Turkey's most important issues. Water, air and soil pollution, global warming, destruction of flora and fauna, corruption of ecological balance, solid wastes, population growth, migrations, vertical architecture have taken part among these problems. The strong solutions which will bring to urbanization and environment problems are the protection of ecological balance and natural life, usage of renewable energy sources like wind and sun, recycle of urban and industrial waste, formats and products of nature friendly production and increasing of the quality and quantity of green environment in urban area. Furthermore, it is necessary to original studies which will bring solution suggestions with analytical approaches to these topics in Turkey. In this context, bibliometric studies which are one of the most important reference sources of science policies stand out. In these studies, publications which were made by people or institutions in a specific region, in a specific period and in a specific field are analysed numerically. In addition, revealing the relationship among publications is another purpose of these studies. The main aim of this thesis is investigated the master and doctorate thesis according to the various parameters by using bibliometric analysis techniques which was done under the title of urbanization and environmental problems between the years of 1978-2018 (40 years) which existed in Higher Education Board Thesis Center. In this direction graduate thesis have been analysed in detail by writing the key words of urbanization and environmental problems to the scan section in webpage of Higher Education Board Presidency Thesis Center. Among the bibliometric parameters which is used in this study: type of thesis, method, language that it is written, number of page, the status of accessibility, year that it is written, university, department and institute that is published, consultant's name and title of consultant, city that it is made has taken part in. In thesis study, it was determined that 214 graduate thesis has been written under the title of environment problems at the end of 2018. 36 of these theses are doctoral thesis and 178 of them are master thesis. Under the title of urbanisation 276 graduate theses was written. 63 of these theses are doctorate and 213 of these theses are master's thesis. Consequently, with widespread of internet and development of technology, scientific information has gathered in formal and informal data pool. National Higher Education Board Thesis Center in Turkey has made accessible the data pool where there are postgraduate theses in electronic environment to contribute to science and to support scientific research and activities. Recently, this data pool is used in scientific works which is based on bibliometric analysis that many indicators take into account. In this context, bibliometric studies can be carried out by using more parameters, under the titles, like environment, environmental policy and local administrations, except urbanization and environmental problems in the following years.
