The sociological analysis of political and social polarisations based on secular and religious life-style in Turkey in the context of daily life routines and interactions

In social relations, individuals or groups may become distant from each other due to several reasons and each of them may be represent a specific pole. In this study which based on a fieldwork it is focused on the daily life reflections of the differences arising from the secular and religious life-style between the ?republican-secular? identity axis and ?conservative-devout? identity axis (even though there is no a deal on the definitions and categorisations mostly) in Turkey. Though the individuals who stand except this two axions are defined as ?middle identity axis? as a separate category, ?republican-secular? identity axis and ?conservative-devout? identity axis were the central point of the study. In this direction, it?s aimed at determining and analyzing the basic social and political values of the ?republican-secular? and ?conservative-devout? participants (or individuals who identify one self as a owner of these values) comparatively in Turkey. In this frame, the polarisation and convergence tendencies or social distance between the republican-secular? and ?conservative-devout? participants that arise from their perception and represantations devoloped one another during the construction of daily life because of their social and political positions is determined. Apart from that, the urban-spatial point of difference was the another dimension of the research. In this direction, a spatial comparison between İzmir which considered as secular life style and Konya in which the religious life style be in the forefront is analized with reference to the debates about ?side-inside?. However, in this study it?s aimed at ?make sense of? the fact of polarisation or convergence during the ordinary/routine reality of daily life, in other words it?s examined at how the ?mind maps? of individuals are constituted, and on which value judgements are the relations between the macro and micro levels/processes established, instead of generating a polarisation or covergence map of these urbans in terms of their different social-economical and cultural features.
