Research on the social adaptation of Iraqi refugees in Turkey

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the actual condition of the social integration of Iraqi Turkmen into Turkey has been investigated. Qualitative dimension of the working group consists of 30 people, 15 women and 15 men. Quantitative size of the study group consists of 243 people, 122 women and 121 men. In this research, parallel convergent pattern of mixed methods design has been used. Phenomenological model as qualitative method and general survey model quantitative method were used in the study. In the study, to examine the social integration of those surveyed, surveys and semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers were used. In the first part of the survey questionnaire, which aims to determine socio-demographic characteristics of the participants, 12 questions and in the second part of the questionnaire, which aims to identify the integration process of the participants, 41 questions were asked. The second part of the survey consists of 4 main groups that show the adaptation processes based on structural adjustment, interactional adaptation, cultural cohesion and identification. According to the results obtained from the qualitative and quantitative findings, it was determined that the majority of the respondents, despite the deficiencies encountered in some aspects, were in compliance with the social life when the integration processes were taken into consideration
