Preparation of high purity salt and salt quality from salt lake water

Abstract (EN)

Salt is the main part of the manufacturing process due to its sodium and chloride ions. It cannot be used directly from the impurities contained in the raw salts used in the industry. High purity and low hardness salts are generally used in chemical industries. The presence of impurities from the salt in the system causes the formation of different products in the process, corrosion of the equipments used in the process, the formation of lime in the process, and clogging of the system. In this thesis, two different purposes were studied. The first objective was to remove the impurities contained in the salt water source and to produce raw salt of high hardness and high purity suitable for industrial use. As a result of the studies, the purity value of the raw salt produced was increased from 98,7% to 99,97% and successful results were obtained. The second objective was to use the extreme learning machine and artificial neural network methods to predict the salt quality of the samples taken from a salt source. In the experimental studies were carried out before modeling and pH, temperature, suspended solids, calcium, bome, magnesium and hardness data were obtained. Three different models were developed in the thesis; 1. In the development of the model, calcium, bome, pH, total solids and sulphate parameters were chosen as input variables and hardness value was determined as output variables 2. In the development of the model, German hardness, bome, pH, total solids and sulfate parameters were selected as input variables and calcium value was determined as output variables. 3. In the development of the model, bome, pH, total solids, calcium, magnesium and sulfate parameters were chosen as input variables. The hardness value of the raw salt formed as a result of evaporation of the brine sample was determined as the output variable. It has been observed that artificial neural network models developed in the studies that predict the hardness of the pool water data and the salt hardness have produced successful results.
