Abstract (EN)

Animation cinema has gained a unique place in the world of cinema with the visual richness and depth it offers to the audience. Especially three-dimensional animated films invite the audience to fascinating worlds by pushing the boundaries of visual expression. Three-dimensional animated films, together with technological innovations, have brought a new dimension to the art of cinema. Texture and atmosphere are important elements that create the visual and emotional depth of a film. Texture includes the surface features, material quality and details of the animation, while atmosphere determines the overall tone, mood and emotional reflection of the film. The use of these two elements in harmony strengthens the audience's bond with the film and increases the effectiveness of the story. The successful creation of atmosphere can fully immerse the audience in the world of the film and increase the emotional depth of the story. In this thesis study, detailed information about the historical development of animation, production techniques and application of techniques and three-dimensional animation production processes are given. In addition, the relationship between the concepts of texture, space and atmosphere with three- dimensional animated films is discussed through examples. Within this information, general information and summaries of three-dimensional animated feature films released in Turkey between 2020-2023 are given, and the design and technical views between the textures used and the atmosphere are presented. In the last chapter, the story of the three- dimensional animated film 'Elif and Friends Cappadocia' (2023) is explained and the effects of texture and atmosphere relationship on characters and scenes are examined in technical details. This thesis study aims to comprehensively reveal the critical role of texture and atmosphere in storytelling in 3D animated films and the effects of these two elements on the audience. It is thought that the study will contribute to future research on three-dimensional animated films.
