Abstract (EN)
Ulugh Beg became the third ruler of the Turkish State, which Timur founded in the late 14th century with his strong politics and superior intelligence, with Samarkand as its capital. Ulugh Beg made Samarkand the capital again and made it the center of science and civilization of the period. The scientific legacy that Ulugh Beg left behind, as he was also a learned ruler, has enlightened the world for centuries. The aim of this thesis is to bring Ulugh Beg's value and importance in the world of science to light once again. This study examines the emergence of the Timurid State on the stage of history and its history up to the period of Ulugh Beg, and then examines Ulugh Beg's life and his period as emir. The importance that this ruler, who brought Samarkand to its golden age, gave to science and the scientific activities he left as a legacy to the world are discussed. Finally, the contributions of the scholars who lived during that period and the scholars who took over Ulugh Beg's scientific legacy and made his name known to the whole world are discussed. Most of the main sources on the history of the Timurids were written by authors who lived during that period and were supported by the rulers themselves. Our study primarily utilized primary sources. Various studies and articles conducted in the world and in our country regarding Ulugh Beg's life and scientific activities were also utilized. The scientific activities carried out under the leadership of Ulugh Beg made great contributions to the history of science and deeply influenced the social and cultural life of the period. Ulugh Beg had an important place in history not only as a ruler but also as a scientist as a result of his personal observations. Ulugh Beg's legacy in the fields of science and culture continues to be researched even today. Key Terms: The History of Science, Timurids, Ulugh Beg, Madrasas, and Observatory Science Code: 60303
