The relationship between intercultural sensitivity and self-confidence of university students: Sample of Çağ University

During the last century it was revealed that, the humanity required to learn living together with diversities all over the world. In order to cope with the social problems arisen due to the diversity, some countries developed new political concepts as a remedy. "Intercultural sensitivity" has become the most prominent among all for last five decade. Besides being introduced as a social fact, the intercultural sensitivity has also some personal feature aspects. This research purposes to assess the relationship between intercultural sensitivity and self-confidence as a personal feature on university students.The sample of the study consists of 259 participants whom was selected randomly among the students studying various majors from Çağ University in Mersin which is the research area. The Intercultural Sensitivity Scale and Self-Confidence Scale were used as the data collection tools. As a result of the study it is determined that, there were positive correlations between self-confidence score and self-confidence in intercultural interaction and pleasure from Intercultural Interaction. In the two-variable comparisons, a linear regression model was created in which significant variables were placed and the effect of independent variables on the intercultural sensitivity mean score was examined. Self-confidence score, psychology studying, foreign language skills, being a woman and living in provincial center were found to be independent factors affecting the intercultural sensitivity mean score.
