Investigation of the relationship between romantic jealousy levels and emotion regulation skills and irrational beliefs in romantic relationships among university students

This study aimed to examine the relationship between university students' romantic jealousy levels, emotion regulation skills and irrational beliefs in romantic relationships. For this purpose, data was collected from 308 university students who were in romantic relationships. Personal Information Form, Multidimensional Jealousy Scale, Emotion Regulation Skills Scale and Irrational Beliefs in Romantic Relationships Scale were used as data collection tools. T-test was applied to measure whether there was a difference between the groups in terms of gender variable, and Pearson Correlation Analysis was applied to measure whether there was a relationship between Romantic Jealousy and Emotion Regulation Skills and Irrational Beliefs in Romantic Relationships. A significance level of .05 was preferred in all analyses. According to the results of the research, a significant difference was found in Emotion Regulation Skills levels in terms of gender variable. No significant relationship was found between the level of Multidimensional Jealousy and Emotion Regulation Skills. A weak positive relationship was found between the level of Multidimensional Jealousy and Irrational Beliefs in Romantic Relationships. A significant positive relationship was found between Multidimensional Jealousy and all subscales of the Irrational Beliefs in Romantic Relationships Scale. Positive relationships were detected between the sub-dimensions of the Multidimensional Jealousy Scale and the Irrational Beliefs in Romantic Relationships Scale. A very weak negative relationship was found between Emotion Regulation Skills and Irrational Beliefs in Romantic Relationships. The findings were discussed in the light of the literature.
