Abstract (EN)

This study examines the effects of university students' closest friends' dark personality traits (Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy) on the students' burnout levels. Data were collected through an online survey from 1091 students at Balıkesir University. The data collection instruments included the Dark Triad Scale, Burnout Scale, and a socio-demographic information form. Data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 software, employing correlation, regression, and ANOVA tests. Correlation analysis revealed no direct relationship between dark personality traits and students' burnout levels. Regression analysis examined the impact of these traits on burnout and found no significant relationship. ANOVA and t-tests were used to determine the effects of demographic factors on burnout. Findings indicate that demographic factors such as age and gender play an important role in this relationship. Notably, students aged 20 and under had significantly higher burnout levels compared to those aged 25 and over. Additionally, female students' burnout levels were significantly higher than those of male students. The results were compared and discussed with existing studies in the literature, highlighting some similarities and differences. In conclusion, it is recommended that universities develop more comprehensive support programs for students by carefully examining the social environments of university students to reduce their burnout levels.
