Investigation of the relationship between academic mobbing and the meaningfulness of work in universities

Abstract (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to determine the relationship between academicians' perceptions of academic mobbing and the perceptions of the meaningfulness of work. The sample of the research consists of 489 academicians working at various state universities in Turkey. In this study the t-test for paired comparisons between variables, one-way analysis of variance for three or more comparisons, Pearson Correlation test to reveal the relationship and regression analysis to determine whether one variable predicted the other variable were used. According to the results of the study, academicians perceive mobbing at low-medium sub-dimension attacks on social relations, attacks on a person's psychological health, attacks on self-expression and communication, attacks on reputation and attacks on occupational status respectively while they perceive at low level size of mobbing (total). Academicians' views on perceived mobbing did not differ sub-dimension of attacks on social relations, while there was a significant difference in mobbing (total) attacks on self-expression and communication, attacks on reputation, attacks on occupational status and attacks on a person's psychological health differ significantly in their dimensions, while there is no significant difference in the size of attacks on social relationships. while there is no significant differentiation in the dimensions of the meaning of work (total), positive meaning, meaning added by work according to gender in the perceptions of academicians about the meaningfulness of work, and there is a significant difference in the dimension of high motivation. In the study, a significant relationship was found between academicians' perceptions of academic mobbing and perceptions of meaningfulness of work. It has been determined that mobbing predicts meaningfulness of work. Based on these results, some suggestions are made for both practitioners and researchers who will conduct similar studies.
