Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY Forest Road Network Planning on Wood Production, National Parks and Forest Fire Risk Areas by Geographical Information System It was aimed that developing of forest road network plan achieving of forest multi- functions as in sustainability concept at forests have been managed by various objectives by this doctorate thesis. A forest road network planning approach was realized for wood harvesting forest, national parks and forest have high rate forest fire risk by this aim. Geographical Information System (GPS) was used for evaluating of data and planning process. The new forest road network plan of Catak Forest District was prepared by adding of 16 new roads segment, total length of 59+067 km, to existing road network plan for serving of wood harvesting operations. Forest road density value was determined as 22.79 m/ha for Catak Forest District. While opening up rate of area was increased to 77.82 %, opening up rate of existing stand value was increased to 94.30 % after planning operations. 90.24 % of roads were planned on the forest areas where occurring of minimum negative environmental impact. National park road standard that it will serve to all national park duties and minimum negative environmental impacts was developed by the results of studies made on Altindere National Park areas. This national park roads type should be made with 3 m platform wideness, 1 m ditch wideness and crossing points that located enough distance. Total length of 251+840 km forest fire breaks were planned for Korudag Forest District. The total length of protecting network was reached to 482+717 km. The wideness of forest fire roads was determined 4 m while the wideness of fire breaks was 30 m that will be planned on harvesting areas that have high rate of forest fire danger. The usage of geographical information system and global position system was seriously saved cost, work power and time during the functionally based forest roads network planning.
