Evaluation of pelvic bone morphometry in patients with uterine prolapsus

Abstract (EN)

Aim: Bone pelvis, ligaments, connective tissue, levator muscle layer are important structures that support the pelvic organs. Differences in these support structures cause displacement in the anatomical positions of the pelvic organs. Our aim in this study is to evaluate the pelvic measurements in patients with uterine prolapse and to investigate whether the differences in the bone structure of the pelvis are effective in the development of uterine prolapse. Methods: The study included 31 patients with stage 3 and 4 uterine prolapse and 31 control patients in the similar age group without prolapse. Pelvimetric measurements were evaluated with MRI without contrast and reported by a single radiologist. The pelvic inlet transverse distance, subpubic angle, intertuberous distance, interspinous distance, sacrococcygeal length, sacral curvature depth, anteroposterior conjugate, obstetric conjugate, and pelvic outlet distances of women in both groups were evaluated, recorded and analyzed. Results: When the MRI pelvic measurements of the two groups were compared, the pelvic inlet transverse distance, intertuberous distance, interspinous distance, sacral coccygeal length, anteroposterior conjugate, obstetric conjugate and pelvic outlet distances were found to be larger in the patient group with uterine prolapse, but they were not found to be statistically significant. Conclusion: There was no statistically significant difference between the pelvimetric measurements made with pelvic MRI in patients with and without pelvic organ prolapse. The effectiveness of morphometric measurements in the bony pelvis in predicting the development of uterine prolapse has not been clearly demonstrated.
