Why do Turkish millennials wish to move abroad? Aims and reasons

Abstract (EN)
Generation Y (Millennials) plays an important role in business and social life in Türkiye. Since the last decade, it has been known that Millennials often think about moving abroad. This study aimed to identify the aims and reasons for Turkish Millennials moving abroad, as well as the factors associated with them. In the study, in line with this purpose, 241 Turkish Millennials were asked survey questions and factor analysis was performed on the obtained data. The results of the factor analysis produced 3 reason factors as dissatisfaction with the work environment, lack of opportunities, and dissatisfaction with the situation in the Türkiye and 3 aim factors having as a better life, being away from Türkiye and family, and career advancement. Then, which reason factors affect which aim factors and to what extent were analyzed. While all three reason factors had a positive effect on having a better life, it was seen that all three factors had no effect on being away from Turkey and family. Dissatisfaction with business life and lack of opportunities affected the purpose of career development positively at a significant level, while being dissatisfied with the situation of the country negatively affected the aim of career development, although its level was less significant.
