Abstract (EN)
DETERMINING THE NUTRITION STATUS AND MINDFUL EATING IN ELDER; MUĞLA CITY CASE This research was planned and carried out as a descriptive esearch in order to define nutrition status and mindful eating levels in elderly and to examine the relationship between them. The sample of the study consisted of individuals aged 60 and over who were enrolled in Refreshment University in Muğla city center and its districts. This study was conducted on a total of 234 (80 males, 154 female) individuals. The study data were obtained online through a form that included questions about the socio-demographic information of the individuals, the Mini Nutritional Assessment Test-Short Form and the Mindful Eating Questionnaire. The data obtained as a result of the study were evaluated with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 22.0 package program in the Windows environment and p<0.05 was considered significant. As a result of the study, 41.3% of men, 41.6% of women were found in the normal range according to the body mass index classification. According to body mass index classification, all of the weak individuals are malnourished, 9.3% of normal individuals and it was found that 27.3% of those who were extremely obese had a risk of malnutrition. It was determined that individuals' mindful eating score was high (97.9%). While there was no relationship between mindful eating and age, there is negative relationship with Mini Nutritional Assessment Test-Short Form total score. While there was a positive significant relationship between body mass index and Mini Nutritional Assessment Test-Short Form, a negative significant relationship was found between body mass index and awareness of mindful eating. There was no significant correlation between individuals' Mini Nutritional Assessment Test-Short Form score and Mindful Eating Questionnaire-30 score (r=-0.12; p=0.07). It has been concluded that in order to prevent malnutrition and the risk of malnutrition in elderly individuals living in the community, nutritional screening should be done at regular and the factor affecting the nutritional status, which is affected by many factors, should be examined in all aspects. In addition, it is recommended to include mindful eatingtrainings, which can be an alternative to obesity treatments in elderly individuals. Keywords: Elderly, Nutrition status, Mindful eating
