Abstract (EN)

Neo-liberal policies and the globalization process brought about a series of change in the media area after the 1980s. In parallel with the globalization of the media, the public monopoly over the radio and TV is decartelized with privatization, which is one of the foremost tools that global neo-liberal policies developed. The media industry became a new investment area for the big holding owners and the number of commercial media institutions increased in a short period of time. However, the women employees of the new media environment struggled with hard working conditions to survive in this sector; and the secondary condition of the women employees is reinforced by media patrons. In this context, the purpose of this study is to determine the difficulties that the women employees face in the media sector. The emerge of commercial radio and TVs under the influence of neo-liberal policies which effected Turkey as from 1980s increased the number of women employees working in the media sector. However, despite the increase, this ratio does not correlate with the administrative levels and women continue to work in inferior positions. On the other hand, due to their domestic and maternal obligations women confront diffuculties because of tough working hours. What's more, they may even be outlawed from their maternal rights or dissociated from their positions. In conclusion, this study reveals the obsticles that women face in their working enviroment; identifies the barriers on the road of administrative accomplishments; and suggests solutions to bring women's place in a better position.
