Abstract (EN)
Increased consumption due to population growth in cities leads to many environmental problems such as climate change, the proliferation of reinforced concrete structures, the increase in surfaces impermeable to rainwater, and the decrease in the amount of urban green areas. One of the methods used as a solution to these problems is green infrastructure systems. Green infrastructure systems have different application areas in cities, and these application areas have many benefits to the city and its citizens, such as ecological, economic and psychological. The most common areas of use of green infrastructure systems in cities are rain gardens, green walls and green roofs. Nowadays, due to the increase in water consumption, available clean water resources are decreasing and many countries are experiencing water scarcity. Rain garden, green wall and green roof applications ensure the sustainability of clean water resources by managing rainwater and recycling it back to nature. Nowadays, green infrastructure systems have started to be implemented in many cities, and the implementation of green infrastructure systems in universities, which are considered as the summary of cities, is also very important. Most universities create sustainability policies and prepare strategic plans within this context. This study aims to design Ordu University Cumhuriyet Campus in line with sustainability principles. The research aims to integrate green infrastructure systems, one of the most important topics of sustainability, into the university campus. In this context, design suggestions were developed by determining suitable areas for the use of rain gardens, green walls and green roofs among green infrastructure components, and rainwater recovery and carbon storage potential were calculated. The amount of rainwater recovered with the use of developed green infrastructure was determined as 4 085 501.1 m3 and the amount of carbon stored with green roof designs was determined as 383 250 g.
