Social, political and economic life in Giresun between 1983-1987 according to Yeşilgiresun and İleri newspapers

The aim of this study is to examine Giresun in the political, administrative, social, cultural, educational and economic areas in the focus of the news made by Yeşilgiresun and Ileri newspapers, which are local newspapers of Giresun. When we look at this period that we are researching from a political point of view, the traces of the September 12, 1980 coup are seen intensely, and it is tried to be explained that there is intense pressure from the military on elections and democracy. After the politically turbulent period, it was seen that the Motherland Party, led by Turgut Özal, came to power and slightly improved the atmosphere in the country. It has been determined that the people of Giresun live in a constant state of distress in social and economic terms, and that the people cannot even reach some basic materials. In addition, studies on hazelnut, which is one of the most important agricultural export items of Turkey, researches and the problems experienced by the producers are mentioned. Even if there was no major disruption in terms of education and culture, the lack of teachers in village schools and the fact that the TV transmitter was put into service in only 5 years were seen as the important problems of the period. While the main sources of our study are Yeşilgiresun and Ileri newspapers, the researches of exceptional people who are from Giresun or who gave their heart to Giresun are also included.
