A quantitative study on the relationship between religiosity, gratitude and happiness in adults

Abstract (EN)
The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between religiosity, gratitude and happiness. In the study, the quantitative research method was adopted, and the relational survey model was used. The sample consists of 492 people between the ages of 18-64. During the data collection process, the survey form created through Google Forms was applied to the participants in December 2020. "Personal Information Form", "Ok-Religious Attitude Scale", "Gratitude Scale", "Happiness Orientation Scale Short Form" were used, and subjective religiosity perception and prayer frequency questions were added to these. The analysis of the data was made using the SPSS package program. Obtained data, t-test, ANOVA, pearson correlation analysis in cases where the scale scores are normally distributed; In the absence of normal distribution, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis H test, and Spearman correlation analysis were used. Significant differences were found between religiosity, gratitude and happiness, and demographic variables (excluding social environment). Significant differences were found between marital status and general religious attitude, behavior and emotion sub-dimensions, happiness orientations general and occupation sub-dimensions. While there was a significant difference between educational status and religious attitude, behavior, emotion, relationship sub-dimensions and happiness orientations and sub-dimensions, there was no significant difference between gratitude scale and education level. While there was a significant difference between occupation status and happiness orientation, occupation and meaning sub-dimensions, the difference between gratitude and occupation did not reach the level of significance. Significant differences were determined between income status and religious attitude, cognition and behavior sub-dimension, and happiness orientations meaning sub-dimension. There was also a significant difference between gratitude and its sub-dimensions and income status. According to the results of the study, positive and significant relationships were found between religiosity-gratitude and religiosity-happiness. In addition, a positive significant relationship was found between gratitude and happiness.
