Abstract (EN)

Before the proclamation of the Republic, numerous intellectuals emerged in the late periods of the Ottoman Empire. These thinkers produced works in various fields of philosophy and particularly engaged in the study of ethics as an official state policy. Zeynizâde Mehmet Hâzık Efendi, who lived during the final years of the Ottoman Empire, was one of these intellectuals and philosophers. He garnered attention for his works and studies in the field of moral philosophy. One significant aspect that sets Zeynizâde Mehmet Hâzık apart from other thinkers is his rational and comprehensive approach to moral philosophy, grounded in intellectual foundations. Zeynizâde Mehmet Hâzık Efendi's works were considered valuable enough to be used as textbooks in educational institutions of the time. In our thesis, we initially provide information about Zeynizâde Mehmet Hâzık's life, scholarly personality, and his works. Zeynizâde systematically addresses topics in the field of ethics, expressing his thoughts in a clear and understandable manner. We examine his moral views, particularly within the framework of his works "Malumat-ı Medeniye ve Ahlakiye," "Malumat-ı Medeniye (Vazaif-i Vataniye)," and "Terbiye." We evaluate Zeynizâde's moral views within the context of classical moral philosophy and make comparisons with different ethical perspectives during our assessments.
